“My mission for Haywood County five years from now: A supportive community of neighbors helping neighbors to facilitate adequate resources for older and vulnerable residents to maintain personal independence and quality of life.”

“I am excited about this initiative. It is an opportunity for our community to come together in a very concrete way to help each other. Many people want to help others but don’t know how to go about doing it; this project will help build that infrastructure and give others a tangible means of getting involved and learning more about resources in our community and how they can help. This is a great time for Haywood County to demonstrate leadership in services for at-risk, vulnerable senior citizens.”

“The Haywood Community Partnership for Older Adults, with the help of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant, will bring to the community an understanding of their rights and well-being, as they face different transitions in their lives. The communities will be drawn closer together with a clear guideline as to how resources can best be served. The grant will bring about consistent and  constructive ways of caring for one another.”

“Haywood Community Connections is an opportunity to change the culture of aging for seniors in Haywood County. This gives us a wonderful way to work together, building bridges in the community to make our county a better place to “age” for current and senior populations.’

“My first job after college was program coordinator at a senior adult community center that was housed in a vacant church the recreation department had purchased and renovated. Twenty-five year later, I vividly remember the vital role the daily activities, special programs and home cooked meals played in the lives of our participants as well as the excitement of raising funds to attend long awaited group trips. My goal to find resources and connections to create this type of active community center in our county is the main reason our department chose to be actively involved with this project. “

The synergy of the partnerships and volunteers creates unlimited opportunities to help our current seniors, and seniors to come, enjoy optimal aging. I am particularly hopeful that we will be able to enhance the health and wellness of those we serve through education, empowerment, and access to service. We are fortunate to have such a resource in our community. I look forward to watching our goals and dreams come to fruition!”

“I feel an urgent need to accomplish something every day to make a difference to the safety of our residents. Coordinating with Haywood Community Connections goals and objectives is an ideal way for County emergency management to develop plans to meet the needs of our most vulnerable citizens -  older adults and those with special needs. “

“I hope I have the opportunity to grow old in a community that welcomes seniors, finds them useful, and supports them. What a wonderful blessing to live in an area with a group like Haywood Community Connections meeting the challenge of making that goal a reality. By involving our community in this project I know our efforts will be fruitful.”

“All of us are aging whether we want to admit it or not! As community partners, we see the value in focusing attention on our aging population. The more mature members of our neighborhoods have much to offer if we will take time to gain from their experiences. Working together will make a tremendous impact on our community.”
