Senior Resource Center May 2013 Calendar

THANK YOU TO ALL SENIOR LEADERSHIP GRADUATES

Every year since 1963 May has been the month to appreciate and celebrate vitality and aspirations of older adults and their contributions and achievements. It is a proud tradition that shows our nation's commitment to honor the value that elders continue to contribute to our communities. This year's Older Americans Month theme - "Unleash the Power of Age!) - emphasizes the important role of older adults.

"UNLEASH THE POWER OF AGE." What a concept. Power in age? Absolutely. Here at The Senior Resource Center we see it every day. We are proud to say that the Boomers and seniors who have "graduated" from the Senior Leadership Program and are now serving on Community Support Teams and in non-profit agencies across the county are unleashing their power every day AND they are empowering others. We acknowledge the value they continue to bring to our communities, and we applaud their achievements. While the Senior Resource Center provides services, support, and resources to older adults year-round, Older Americans Month is a great opportunity to show special appreciation! We offer a HUGE and sincere THANK YOU to all Senior Leadership Program graduates. To view a list of some of the achievements by the leadership graduates, click on "Finding the Help You Need" then, from the drop-down menu, click on "Senior Resource Teams."

Delirium Accelerates Decline in Dementia: Harvard researchers found Alzheimer patients experiencing delirium during hospitalization may be at risk for an accelerated rate of cognitive loss. Hospitalized  patients (263) were followed. Patients who developed delirium during hospitalization showed significantly greater decline in their intellectual performance over a 5 year follow up than patients who did not experience delirium.
